Utah Gold Claims for Sale

Utah has produced significant gold from both lode and placer sources, particularly in the Oquirrh Mountains, the Uinta Mountains, and the canyon country of the Colorado Plateau. The state is less well-known as a gold destination than neighboring Nevada and Colorado, which means prospective ground is often more affordable and less competitive.

Geology

Utah gold occurs in three main geological settings: the Bingham Canyon porphyry copper-gold system in the Oquirrh Mountains (one of the largest porphyry deposits in the world), Paleozoic carbonate-hosted replacement deposits in the central Utah ranges, and placer gold in drainages from the Uinta Mountains and the Wasatch Range.

Mining Districts

Significant producing areas include the Bingham district in Salt Lake County, the Tintic district in Juab County, the Park City district in Summit County, the Gold Hill district in Tooele County, and the placer areas of the Uinta Mountains. Smaller placer workings exist in many drainages along the Wasatch Front and in Kane and Garfield counties.

BLM and Land Access

The BLM Utah State Office manages more than 22 million acres across the state. The Salt Lake Field Office, Fillmore Field Office, and Monticello Field Office cover gold-bearing areas. Much of the Uinta Mountains placer country falls within the Ashley and Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest systems.

Season and Access

Utah placer season runs April through October at most elevations. Desert claims at lower elevations in southern Utah can be worked year-round. High Uinta claims above 9,000 feet have compressed seasons from late June through September. Water rights in Utah are senior and buyers should investigate water access for any placer claim.
