Oregon Gold Claims for Sale
Oregon's gold country spans the Klamath Mountains in the southwest to the Blue Mountains in the northeast, with placer gold in waterways throughout both ranges. The state has a long tradition of small-scale and family mining, and the Josephine and Jackson county areas remain among the most active recreational and small commercial mining regions in the Pacific Northwest.
Geology
Oregon gold deposits reflect two distinct geological provinces. The Klamath Mountains in southwest Oregon contain Paleozoic and Mesozoic oceanic terranes with both placer and lode gold. The Blue Mountains in northeast Oregon host Mesozoic volcanic arc sequences with associated placer and lode deposits. Gold in the Siskiyou and Siskyou-Klamath region is often coarse and high-grade.
Mining Districts
Key producing districts include the Applegate and Illinois Valley areas in Josephine County, the Jacksonville district in Jackson County, the John Day and Canyon City district in Grant County, and the Cornucopia district in Baker County. The Applegate River drainage produced significant placer gold and continues to support active small-scale operations.
BLM and Land Access
The BLM Oregon State Office manages extensive public lands across eastern and southwestern Oregon. The Medford District Office and the Roseburg District Office cover the Klamath Mountains gold country. The Vale District covers parts of the Blue Mountains placer area. Oregon has specific in-stream mining regulations that vary by watershed and season.
Season and Access
Oregon placer season varies by region. Southwest Oregon drainages are accessible April through October, with summer low water ideal for in-stream work. The Blue Mountains are best worked June through September. Oregon water law and in-stream mining permits require attention prior to operational planning.
